Jobs Only In All The Wrong Places

Out of a job? No worries... so are 80,000 more Americans as of this month. In fact, the national unemployment rate climbed to 5.1.% and about 250,000 people have lost their job so far this year. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez said, "These are challenging times" and that "We'll get through this." Easy for him to say with a nice safe government job that is almost impossible to loose! However there may be a reprieve...

Strong storms continue to causing major issues across Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky including damaging houses and taking out electricity effecting over 100,000 people. One person was also effected mentally, when asked about his experiences he said, "The whole thing was like being in a silent movie." Why do I have a feeling that no one else would agree with this assessment? The upside to all this is there will be a need for people to fix these things so thats like a built in jobs program!

In International News...

Blackwater may be hiring! The private military (aka contractor) just had it's Iraq contract renewed despite the company's employees being involved in an unprovoked shooting of Iraqi civilians. In order to fix this, the U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority enacted a measure in 2004 that "prevents foreign security contractors from being prosecuted in local courts." Gee, doesn't this sound like something out of Russia rather than from the United States?

Speaking of Russia, Vladimir Putin announced today that he wants Russia and NATO to be able to place nice with one another. "Let's be friends, guys, and be frank and open." Yes, those are his words! Of course Putin is the outgoing leader of Russia, so anything he says at this point really doesn't matter to much. He was sure to add that his "successor is very well educated" and told the NATO leadership that they "will have some interesting times with him." Perhaps the Russians are hiring?
