Hindu Goddess Reincarnates in Northern India

Have you ever wanted to be a god? I know I have. Well, Lali, with an extremely rare condition known as craniofacial duplication, where a single head has two faces, is getting that chance. If born in the mid-west the kid would end up as a circus freak, but thankfully rural India is deeply superstitious and the little girl is being hailed as a return of the Hindu goddess of valor, Durga. Politicians are already working their angles as Jaipal Singh, a member of the local village council proclaimed, "Lali is God's gift to us," and Dauslat Ram, the village chief declared, "I am writing to the state government to provide money to build the temple and help the parents look after their daughter." Politics is everywhere!

Mess in the Middle East

Iran is testing advanced centrifuges in a clear "up yours" sentiment to the United States and the IAEA. In response French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said, "I fear that we will have to continue on the path of sanctions if we do not receive a response from the Iranians." Of course, the U.N. Security Council has passed three rounds of sanctions against Iran for failing to heed demands previously... so I am sure that the French plan will work stunningly!

Hamas is set to invade Israel and Egypt in the first reverse pincer strategy attempted by the part militia part terrorist group that some think should be recognized as a political party. The borders were sealed along the Gaza Strip when Hamas violently seized control of Gaza last June. "Israel has said it will ease the blockade if Hamas halts rocket fire and other militant attacks on Israeli targets and Egypt refuses to recognize Hamas' rule and has said it can only open the border as part of an international agreement." See, you give the Palestinians their own territory and they still cause problems!

A Dubai prince has way too much money and he is proving that by paying 2.7 million dollars for a camel during a camel beauty pageant. "The ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who is also the Emirates' president, and his brother Sheik Mohammed Bin Zayed al-Nahyan both own an undisclosed number of camels." So why can't these guys pick up some of the cost of rebuilding Iraq?

Your Government at Work

Hybrid cars are not just too expensive but they are also too quiet. Once again a special interest group is getting its day on the hill through a bill intended to protect blind people and other pedestrians from the dangers posed by quiet cars. "The measure would require the Secretary of Transportation to establish safety standards for hybrids and other vehicles that make little discernible noise, including an audible means for alerting people that the cars are nearby." Next they will be pushing for all people to wear bells around their necks.
