Simply put; The worst presidential candidate in recent history.
Being a college student (okay, a man of college "age") myself, I am constantly forced to hear praises for Obama by my peers. Phrases like "Obama is the best candidate for America", "We need change, and Obama is the man to give it to us" or my personal favorite "I don't know why, I just like Obama" are exclaimed fervently.
Whenever I throw out the inevitable "Why?", these same people are speechless. You can see the wheels turning in their head, and watch their eyes glaze over with confusion, as they realize that they have no idea as to how to even begin answering the question. The whole "ooh geez, I brought a knife to a gun fight", feeling envelopes them, as they come to grips with their ill preparedness. Next step, their brain malfunctions, and explodes, sending pieces of their cerebellum flying onto my oxford cloth shirt. Okay, I'll admit, that I fudged that last part.
... I am far too poor to afford oxford cloth shirts.
Young people want to vote "Obama", and they have no idea as to why. The truth is, that there is no "why." Only hype.
Forget the man's "as radically left as they come" stance on abortion, his socialist agenda or his complete lack of experience. The guy is just a douche. Obama doesn't have the best interests of our country at heart. Plain and simple. I've been hearing a lot about Obama's pastor "Jeremiah Wright", over at "Trinity Church" lately. The left accuses the right, of "trying to make Wright out to be Obama's mouthpiece, when Obama can speak for himself."
The truth is, Obama made Wright out to be his mouthpiece. When Obama wasn't quoting or downright plagiarizing Mr Wright in his speeches, he was telling stories and painting pretty, little mental pictures about the Utopia that is "Trinity." Yes it's true, Obama has been personally quoted as saying that Jeremiah Wright is his closest spiritual and political adviser. Yes it's true that Obama has held the man in the highest esteem, since joining the church nearly two decades ago. Yes it's true that Obama has used both Mr Wright and Trinity Chruch as the fulcrum of his campaign for quite a while now. And yes, it's true that the chances of Obama having NOT noticed his pastor's anti-American hate speeches, and ultimately insane behavior is very unlikely to say the least.
Has anybody actually bothered checking out the church itself? I would advise you to glance at their website. http://www.tucc.org/about.
Of course, as with any church, you have to sign on to their code of ethics/belief platform in order to become a part of the congregation. A congregation that preaches hatred towards America, while pledging an undying allegiance to the nation of Africa. Do we REALLY want a member of this church running our country?
How can someone truly be given the responsibility of bettering our country and enriching our lives, when his number one priority, is thousands of miles across the Atlantic? "What do you want?! He's Kenyan!" a friend of mine yelled at me the other day. No he's not. He's American. Something that he all too often seems to forget.

The Worst Person in The World,
dude, you are an idiot.
Obama should be our next president simply because he the smartest person running. Quite honestly, I'd rather have a genius getting on the job training. Lets compare the guy to his competition-- it is safe to assume Hillary is done.
John McCain III's father was a highly esteemed Admiral who pulled strings to get his son into the Naval Academy. (a wonderful parallel of Bush and GW at Yale).
John McCain, like many legacies, did very poorly in school. He couldn't even pull a "gentleman's C" (certainly not because he was lazy-- its the f-ing Naval Academy). Graduating 894 out of 899, McCain went on to crash something like 6 planes while training for Vietnam.
Obama, on the other hand, comes from the middle class-- not an elitist admirals family. The man was clearly a genius, able to transfer to Columbia, an Ivy league school, and eventually go on to graduate school at Harvard. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get into Harvard without legacy? Not to mention the fact that he was voted editor of the most prestigious law review magazine in the country.
Don't tell me this guy isn't qualified-- or "a douche". He's likely as smart as Bill Clinton-- although not the ladies man.
Obama is young, and will certainly be one of the hardest workers the oval office has ever seen. Mccain is so old that I lack confidence in his abilities to make decisions, or even stay alive for entire duration of his first term. Not to mention he is famous for napping through the "state of the union speech"
Everything has become so globalized, that we no longer can afford to have such a damaged reputation. I've been abroad for several months, and of the hundreds of people I've talked to, most say that Obama would do just that. Obama's a level headed guy-- Mccain is known for his temper.
I could write a book, but I've been verbose enough.
Watch Rev. Jeremiah Wright's 9-11 sermon in context
Already 180,000 people have watched this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdlnzkeoyQ
Of course quite a few of the young people of college age that I talk to say that they are supporting Obama (or Hillary) because after 5 years of occupying Iraq and 8 years of cut & spend government that they are willing to vote for change. But maybe the college kids you talk to have forgotten about Iraq and our +250 billion dollar deficit.
I never cease to amazed by how silly and belligerent right-leaning people can sound when they really put their minds to it. I will not go into a discussion of contextuality, or the black experience, or double-standards because at this point its trite and asenine. If you're still shocked by the fact that there are angry Black people or that media pundits tend to emphasize their own perspectives and agendas (conservative AND liberal), then you seriously should retake 8th grade social studies. And until you do, hush. Yeah, yeah, yeah freedom of speech and what not, but really, its just a matter of public courtesy. You're polluting the collective consciousness.
That being said, I don't understand how one can criticize "college students" for supporting Obama without knowing all of his policies thoroughly when one of the biggest and most depended upon voting blocs for McCain consist of individuals who know nothing more about him or any other Republican than their claim to be the members of the party of God. As if this should be a sufficient sociopolitical position. I don't doubt its significance, but I question the validity of such a position. Is this really very different from people saying, "I just like Obama?" I recall much of the same being said about our current president. The point is, there really is no higher ground on either the liberal or conservative side to criticize rival constituencies from.
Just as we--I'll go ahead and identify myself as a proud liberal--grudgingly accept the "What Would Jesus Do" or "Good Ol' Boy" vote as political reality with varying degrees of exasperation, I charge the other side to do the same. It is quite possible that people simply know we can't economically or conscientiously continue along the same path we are on domesitically or internationally.
Does this mean the only option is to denounce America and become flag-burning anarchists? Of course not. But certainly no one has to write a dissertation on Obama's political and economic policy before throwing their lot in with him.
Now, let's all take a deep breath, step back and concentrate on the real enemy, the programming execs at MTV. They must be stopped.
Those of you who have left comments really give yourselves lots of credibility with your spelling errors and run on sentences and bad grammar!
Also, I noticed none of you even bothered to try to explain Obama's policies. Gee, I wonder why. Probably because they're extremely abstract, intangible ideas! (And I'm sure the majority of Obama's college age supporters aren't familiar with what he wants to do besides "get out of Iraq" and "change!" and "hope!".
I'm (proudly) voting for John McCain. I'm throughly familiar with his positions and policies, as well as his Senate voting record. At least I know why I'm voting for my candidate.
I must apologize for any spelling errors and grammatical mistakes I may have made in the past and will make in the future. I realize that these are the errors that will ultimately lead to the downfall of Western Civilization.
Now, I think the over-arching point of my comments have been side-stepped for the purpose of waving the McCain flag--and none to subtly at that. "Irrelevance" comes to mind. Anyway, no one, it seems, was setting out to explain the policies of any candidate. That's what their websites are for. The main point was to acknowledge the hypocrisy of playing the uninformed voter card as if it were unique to the Obama campaign, the Clinton campaign, or the McCain campaign. It isn't. It's an unfortunate trait of modern politics.
Further, attacking abstract idealism makes no sense. Idealism is a great and necessary part of the political dynamic. The country favors one for a while, decides it doesn't work and tries a new one. You can't tout the merits of democracy and condemn idealism. It's the lifeblood of both sides of the spectrum, and to pretend that a lot of it isn't made up as one goes along is ridiculous. And really, how hard is it to be detailed about extending 8 years of previous policy? Adding a few sentences to an old syllabus doesn't make you a better teacher.
So, my respects to all who know the policies of their favored candidates. I encourage the same for everyone.
And remember, down with MTV programming execs.
I am not an American, but America interests me, as it does many others around the world.
The Original Post (although not very original) asks why someone would vote for Obama. What is his policies, etc. But the question that intrigues me, and a great many others around the world is why you vote for anyone at all.
From where I sit, it appears that in the US, policy decisions are made by rich people/corporations, not politicians of either the administration, congress or senate.
So why then would it make the slightest bit of difference who one voted for?
I know this sounds like flamebait, but I am truly curious. What does any candidate offer beyond who gets to perform the State of the Union and pretend to be the leader of the free world?
Is this the true political illusion in the Republic, that there is actually a choice?
