This weekend the United States witnessed it's largest beef recall, 143 million pounds. The meat was destined to end up in school lunches but instead the students will now get fake beef. But not to worry, the USDA says there is only "a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product" and "Officials estimate that about 37 million pounds of the recalled beef went to school programs, but they believe most of the meat probably has already been eaten."
Thats just great... recalling meat thats already been eaten. Why cause the panic... sometimes the government ought to just cover things up. Ignorance is bliss when it comes to things like this.
In other animal related news, scientists have found the fossil of the Beelzebufo. The Devil Toad was 16 inches long and weighed an estimated 10 pounds. Think of a bowling ball with a big mouth and sharp teeth. One of the scientists who found the remains said, "It's not outside the realm of possibility that Beelzebufo took down lizards and mammals and possibly hatchling dinosaurs."
I would not want to run into this thing in a dark bowling alley. Just imagine you stick your fingers in what you think are the ball holes, a scream later... and no more fingers!
In Abu Dhabi, a member of a wealthy family.paid $14 million for a license plate with nothing but the number "1" on it. The record sale surpassed the $6.8 million that was paid for an Emirati license plate at an earlier auction with the Western number 5 on it. Saeed Khouri is not sure which of his many cars he will put it on, but he said, "I bought it because it's the best number... I bought it because I want to be the best in the world."
Silly me, but I always thought one was the loneliest number.
And in South Africa, the first anti-AIDS vaginal gel to make it through late-stage testing failed to stop HIV infection. 9,000 women volunteered for the study... and it turns out, most of them now have AIDS. Thats not good... Note to self... Avoid South Africa.
