A New Country and a New War?

Quick, add a desk to the UN General Assembly in New York, and find Kosovo some embassy space in Washington, DC. Thats right we now have a new country to deal with. "Kosovo's parliament declared the disputed territory a nation on Sunday, mounting a historic bid to become an "independent and democratic state" backed by the U.S. and European allies but bitterly contested by Serbia and Russia." Once part of Yugoslavia, a country that never could hold itself together, and until today a providence in Serbia where bloodshed and violence has been the norm since 1992 when it declared its independence from Yugoslavia... yet another decision in the region that Russia was not a fan of.

Perhaps we will soon see the same thing happen here in Texas? Or perhaps it will be Vermont!

In the meantime, the United States faces the threat of falling objects. "President Bush has ordered the Pentagon to use a Navy missile to attempt to destroy a broken U.S. spy satellite — and thereby minimize the risk to humans from its toxic fuel — by intercepting it just before it re-enters the atmosphere." Russia on the other hand believes this to be the start of a new space arms race. By the way, the cost to U.S. taxpayers... at least $10 million.

"The United States formally recognized Kosovo's independence Monday, and Europe's major powers said they would do the same, setting up a confrontation with Serbia and its key ally, Russia."

But the real question is... how many people can find the county on a map?
