Are you pro life?

- Joseph, Resident of the 22nd District

Joseph, yes, I am pro life. Abortion saddens me, and I hope one day there is an end to that practice. We must be mindful of judicial activism that attempts to usurp the power of the legislature.

Getting crowded in CD22

More folks are lining up to take a crack at the GOP nomination for CD22 and the right to run against Rep. Nick Lampson next year. Gary says Mike Manlove, the term-limited mayor of Pasadena, wants in. Muse writes about Alan Steinberg, a 25-year-old from Sugar Land with a fairly accomplished resume. And Greg forwarded me a lovely email from a fellow named Pete Olson, who likes to use the phrase "Surrender Democrats". I think if he added a comma in there and got someone dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West to skywrite it over the district, he might have something. Or not. At least he seems to understand that in order to win this primary, he's going to have to bring the crazy. Stock up on your popcorn now. - Off the Kuff (9/27/07)

One of the things I would like to be brought to the surface is this rumbling of a North American Union. I never really believed in it until I started studying the history of the formation of the European Union. The people of these countries had no say in the formation of this "government." And with today's Congress, it seems no one on the hill is listening to their constituents. The phrase, "no taxation with out representation," is beginning to ring true again because no one is listening to us. Virgina is going to experience an earthquake soon because of our founding fathers rolling in their graves.

Please tell me this is all a farce and I am worried about nothing or does American need to brace for the abolishment of its integrity.

- John from Houston, TX

John, the prospects of a “North American Union” and the “Amero” are not things I look forward to. I like that the United States is being proactive about our geopolitical situation and is engaging in talks with Mexico and Canada, but I do not like that the opinions of the American people are being neglected during this process. I have spoken to many people and few if any seem to be supportive of the Trans-Texas Corridor and other aspects of the SPP. I am all for joint security arrangements on the border, cooperative training, and information sharing… but I am not supportive of taking people’s property to build a super highway which the people of Texas are not convinced we need in the first place or for allowing trucks from Mexico to enter into the United States without inspection and without the same regulations U.S. trucks must adhere to. There are major security and economic factors at play here, yet the issues hardly make the news. The government is suppose to work on behalf of the people, but with the SPP it seems that they are working behind the backs of the people. It is time to replace those in Washington who are not listening to their constituents!

Another Candidate Throws His Hat Into The TX-22 Race

A 25-year old from Sugar Land, Alan Steinberg, wants to be your Congressman. Hey, he has pictures of cute girls on his myspace page! Maybe he'll do well with that demographic.

You need to know he went to A&M. I think that's important.

He's got quite the bio. He's had fellowships and internships and published papers on weaponization of space, worked at the Department of Defense and started up a wireless company.

Overachiever, thy name is Alan Steinberg.

Hat tip to Pink Dome for unearthing the next candidate to join Talton/Hrbacek/Sekula-Gibbs/Manlove road show.

(We assume he is a Republican right? He went to A&M, afterall.)

Why is it that you are running for Congress at the age of 25?

- Navid from New York, NY

Many older people who run are encumbered by their political past. They owe too many people favors and are too concerned with staying in power than truly working on behalf of the public.

Rather than serve the best interests of the public, they pander to the groups that put them in power and will help keep them there. Once elected an incumbent will not risk making too much noise because statistically they know that if they just stay under the radar they will get re-elected. We have a government for the people by the people... but its becoming a government for the special interest groups by the career politicians. I just want my two years to shake things up a bit, work to reduce wasteful spending, limit the size of government, and bring new ideas to old problems.

Republican vs Democrat joke!

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude."

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican."
"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat."
"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault."

It does not matter who is in power, both sides spend money wastefully, earmark for special interests, and pork barrel to get re-elected. What makes you think that you can change spending habits of congress?

- asked in various ways by multiple people in the District

Simply put, I'm not going to take it. I will stand up for the public and work to reduce spending in order to return money to the tax payers. Spending can be made more efficient, but the public needs to stand up and do something about it. Electing a politician will not get your change. The public should not accept the current spending habits of Congress and send a message by electing someone new. These guys have the right idea:

CD 22: Another GOP Contender

This one is a young person, Alan Steinberg. He has a website/blog up, but as a political novice is sure to have his hat handed to him by Sekula-Gibbs and Talton in the primary.

CD 22 seems to get more interesting by the day.

Where do you stand on Israel?

- David from Bellingham, WA

David, the people of Israel are fighting for their survival on a daily basis. Israel has been and continues to be an important ally for the United States. It is imperative that we support Israel just as we would support any of our other allies around the world when they are fighting for their survival.
